Beef and Broccoli |

Beef and Broccoli

This one needs planning to allow time to marinate.
  • 1 lb. flank steak sliced thinly against the grain
  • Marinade:
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ⅛ tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Mirin (sweet cooking rice seasoning)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • ½ tsp garlic, minced garlic
  • 1 lb bag of frozen steam-able broccoli
  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • hot cooked rice 
  1. In a bowl, combine all of the marinade. Add beef and toss to coat. Cover and place in the fridge. Allow to marinate for 8 hours.
  2. Heat wok or large skillet, add a little oil to prevent to meat from cooking. Add marinated meat to the skillet along with the 1 tsp ginger and minced garlic. Stir-fry until beef is done. This should only take a few minutes.
  3. In the meantime, steam broccoli according to package directions in the microwave. Drain.
  4. Add broccoli to the wok along with the oyster sauce. Combine water and cornstarch and add to the wok along with 1 tsp sugar. Cook until all the meat and broccoli is well coated and mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Serve over hot cooked rice. Serves 4-5.
Recipe should be gluten free if you use gluten free soy sauce.
